WHY?!

-I'm reacting/expanding my to post made earlier.
-- Why in the world does alcohol have to be the first thing we think of to do, in order to relieve stress?! Is that really only how far our brains can stretch, to just jump to conclusion that that's the only way? What about taking a run or a walk, taking a drive, listening to music, taking a nap (only if tired of course), talking on the phone with someone, jumping up and down (believe me it helps), dancing, drawing, painting, writing it all down, going to work out. There are NUMEROUS ways to cope with bad situations, fear, and things we don't want to have to face. Alcohol isn't dealing with a problem, it's running away from it, it's a mask for what we don't want to see. The only way to actually get over a problem and move on from it looking it straight in the face and just accepting it, and figure out the mess.

i think because the alcohol is the fastest and most complete way to wipe out some thing that was kept on bugging or stressing someone, at least for a while. And also Alcohol is one of the cheapest way to have a time off from the so-called"reality."
so as I think in the book, jack is not patient enough spending 3 hours to just let the stress out.

There are definitely numerous ways to get rid of fear/ pressure/ stress. Dancing, drawing, painting talking to someone definitely helps. Plus all these activities help you think about the problem you are facing. But you can never run away from it. Alcohol is a tool that helps you run away from pressure, fear and stress. Its never a good thing to try escaping fear, but some people are weak to face their problems. Its never a good thing, but they need drugs. They need alcohol. Not everyone thinks about Alcohol and Drugs right away. Its just some few groups of people that escapes to those things.
I guess Jack and his friends are too weak to face the problem.

Yes I agree with how they are weak, but no one needs drugs, no one ever needs alcohol. They want it. I do object to how those thing make you think about your problems, I personally forget about my problems when I dance or do others things related. And when I'm done dancing or weaving, etc. I have a clear head and feel better and know whatever I have to deal with will be ok. But yes I understand how some people like to runaway and that's there way of doing it, but how can we make the people who are 'weak', who feel like alcohol is the only way to forget, see or feel like there is another way to deal?
