New faces

What would it feel like to spend a year or two traveling with complete strangers? Never knowing who you will end up meeting or spending days with? That's what Jack Kerouac is doing everyday. It seems that he never gets to really know any of the people he meets due to the fact that he he leaves to find another transportation or they leave. For most of our lives we get to meet new people, however we spend a while getting to know them.

I agree that he can't get to know people too well since he does not have much time with them, but I think that he is able to build really strong relationships with people since they are both in the same unusual situation. It also seems that it is valuable to spend time with old friends in new locations.

He's a writer, and his mind seems more geared towards observation. He's not as focused on getting to know the characters, or crazy personalities he encounters.
What makes the book unique is his ability to recount the events on the road, while adding the quirks that normal people wouldn't notice. I think he's getting to know the people, but in a more internal way.

Traveling and encountering different people in different settings is one of the most rewarding experiences a person can have. When one realizes how many people live on this earth, each unique, with their own personality and story, it seems like an incredible waste not to try and connect with as many as possible. There are certain people who are so amazing that one can hardly imagine what life would have been like without meeting them, these people are scattered across the globe and the only way to appreciate their existence is to travel until, by coincidence, your roads intersect. With each encounter one learns a little bit more about human beings and, in turn, about one's self. This way it should become harder and stranger to ever feel lonely, because it is known that there is always this mass of extraordinary individuals sharing this lifetime.

he wasn't really in the mood for getting to know people, even he met some that are really interesting. maybe that's a downside of traveling in a very fast speed.
