Jack is so focused on moving on from his past depression, and yet he never seems comfortable or satisfied. He has itchy feet, and states that "I could feel the pull of my own life calling me back."
It's exhausting reading this because he never seems relaxed, or situated.

He never seems to really go into his depression which might be a reason as to why his writing seems so frantic. What could be a time to vent has to be focused on the main topic which was his trip.
The reason Jack is not relaxed and situated is because he never knows what he wants. He makes a choice and then later he wishes he had chosen differently.
